1st Saranghaeyo Korea Festival in Kota Kinabalu,Sabah,Malaysia.

Last evening (25th September 2009) my wife and I attended the Saranghaeyo Korea Dance Concert at the 1Borneo Grand Ballroom. "Saranghaeyo" which means "love" in the korean language highlighted the appreciation of both the Sabahan and Korean culture. The festival held for the first time in Sabah was also to mark the celebration of Malaysia and South Kore's 50th Anniversary diplomatic relations as well as to promote tourism between both countries.
Korean cultural dances were performed by the Korea House performers while a series of break dances by the group of 10 internationally well-known B-Boys.
Amongst the cultural dances performed last evening were the "Sinawi""Buchaechum"(the famous Korean fan dance),"saipuri","Bukchum"(a drum beating dance which I truly enjoyed)and lots more during the 2 hour concert.Proceeds from the 2-days concert were donated to the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation of Kota Kinabalu and HOSPIS, Sandakan.
I managed to take some shots of the dances and have off-loaded them here for those who missed this great show and dance panorama. As flash was not allowed by those taking photographs, I have to resort to taking them at high resolution.

The Good Ship "Doulos"

Yesterday (31st August 2009) was Malaysia's Merdeka (Independence) Day. It was celebrated as the 52nd year of independence counting from 1957 when the Federated States of Malaya achieved independence from the British Colonial rule while Sabah and Sarawak joined Malaysia and achieved independence from the British Colonial rule on 16th September 1963 only.According to the Guiness Book of World Records, Doulus has been recognised as the world's oldest active ocean-going passenger ship.
The good ship "Doulus" (the world's largest floating bookstore) was back again after 2 years in Kota Kinabalu Port and opened to the public from 29th August 2009 till 21st September 2009.My family and I never missed visiting the ship every time it calls at Kota Kinabalu to browse through its huge collections of books, magazines and cds. This time I managed to buy a few books on music (guitars and songs.
